FAQ | Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Can you tell me something about the diploma program?

Answer:

The Flower Arranging course is a technical-vocational diploma program. It spans 40 classes of 3 hours each per week. The classes are usually scheduled from 1:30pm to 4:30pm on weekdays (floral arrangers have quite a heavy event schedule on weekends!) and 1:30 to 4:30pm on Saturdays (for those too busy with work during weekdays).

Class size ranges from 6 to 10 students per. This gives the instructor more time to work with every student, carefully monitoring and guiding every student during floral arranging exercises.

Each class tackles both the theoretical and practical applications of a given design topic. At the end of each particular set of lessons, students are subjected to an oral, written and practical exam which they MUST pass if they get their technical vocational diploma at the end of the course.

iPhFT will give a technical vocational diploma, NOT a certificate which one would normally get just by attending a seminar or a workshop. iPhFT IS a school and the entire program is conducted the way any normal collegiate class is undertaken.

Question:

Can you give me an idea of the course outline?

Answer:

The course outline is what differentiates the iPhFT diploma program from the others. It encompasses everything one must know in order to practice the trade and craft of floral arranging.

As a formal class, we will not just be discussing the theories of design or showing techniques or approaches to particular design styles, we require that the students can execute said designs, differentiate one from the other and input their own creative styles all within the framework of what is technically and theoretically correct.

No “winging.” No “widowing.” No “I can do it but I don’t understand why.”

The course starts with the introduction to the trade and its tools leading to flower care and extending the life of flower stocks. The class then tackles “heavier” lessons like the Principles and Elements of Design, Techniques, Styles and various arrangements for Minor and Major Events.

All known forms and techniques in floral arranging will be tackled and it is expected that at the end of the course, students have compiled pictures of their own arrangements that will make up their very own portfolio of designs.

iPhFT IS not just a design school but a trade school. This means that that the course is ALSO designed to teach you how to earn a living from floral arranging.

Question:

How much is the tuition and what is covered by it?

Answer:

The tuition is P60,000.00. That is roughly P1,500.00 per class and way too low for the flower arranging seminar-workshops which would normally cost anywhere from P5,000-7,000.00 with just a certificate at the end.

A reservation fee of P3,000.00 is must to reserve a slot in a class. The amount required as a deposit (a week prior to the start of a class) will depend upon the Payment Plan you would like to observe. Yes, we have several you can choose from that would make it easy for you to take up the course.

The tuition covers floral requirements in the first 6 classes of the program. Afterwards, students will be required to purchase and bring their own “stocks” for their floral arranging exercises depending upon the “design” they would like to adopt – it is the student’s call on what stocks they would like to use, how many they would like to have and how complicated they would like their arrangement to be within the framework of the lesson on hand.

Question:

I do flower arrangements already. Do I need to take up everything?

Answer:

Yes. Everyone starts with Class 1 without exceptions. We have enrolled in our class, floral arranging instructors themselves, people who have been in the industry for decades or those operating their own flower shops and even event coordinators as well as those who have won floral arranging awards in various competitions. All are students brought about by one simple thought – there will always be something new to learn.

Question:

When does the next class schedule start?

Answer:

We usually start a class every quarter, at the least. Call landline (632)4001416 and ask when the next class will begin. There is usually one that is about to start in a month or so. Reservations are currently ongoing. We “close” classes depending upon the number of reservations we receive for a particular class “day and time.” This means that if there are about 10 people who reserved a slow for a Tuesday class from 1:30pm-4:40pm then we open a Tuesday class immediately compared to say a Monday class from 9:30am to 12:30nn that only has about 4 people confirmed.

When interested parties call, we usually ask them for their preferred schedules – not just one but several, for us to ascertain what and when our next class schedule will be.

Call us and leave your name, number and preferred schedule and will get back to you when we start receiving reservations. Seats can go VERY fast.

Saturday queries come few and far between. The reason for this probably is because those in the floral arranging industry (of any job that works with “events”) are usually full on weekends. Call us and leave your name and contact details.

I have a question. Are you offering short courses? my schedule is not fixed and i will be having a hard time getting the same day-off every week. and as of the moment, 10 months is too long for me. i just need a short course ( for beginners).
    thanks so much!

    • iPhFT says:

Sorry. We dont offer any short courses. Only the diploma course. Try TLRC or TESDA for their week-long flower arranging courses. I believe they offer them.

  3. julie says:

could you send me a copy of the payment plans you are offering? also what are the requirements needed upon enrollment? thanks

    • iPhFT says:

Please call the school secretary – Gina – at landline 4001416. The payment plans sometimes vary from one class opening to another. She can discuss with you the payment scheme currently on offer for the May 12 class opening. The only required document is a copy of your HS/College diploma.

  4. Trisha says:

we have a flower shop for more than 10years, but i don’t execute floral arrangements on my own because we have florists. i wanted to learn though.

can i take this course even if i am a beginner (as i may say)?
or is this course only for those who already have a background in flower arranging?

are the instructors foreigners or filipinos?

    • iPhFT says:

You know, thats precisely the reason why some flower shop owners are enrolling themselves – so they will not be beholden to their staff and still be in business even if their arrangers leave them. Learning will enable them to have a firmer grasp of inventory control, an opinion in the arrangements executed by their staff and a direction on what business angle to take as far as the shop’s creations are concerned. We have about SEVEN owners at the moment enrolled in the program who know nothing about floral arranging — FOUR are about to graduate next month.

The program starts at the most basic level – for people who dont know anything about floral arranging AS WELL AS FOR THOSE who are already arranging (you can’t know everything and there will always be something new to learn BECAUSE the program is BEYOND mere certification. Every class is done in a formal classroom setting with notes, lectures and hands-on exercises). It would be just right for you.

The instructors are Filipinos. Some trained outside the country for several YEARS. Some in floral arranging for years. Some trained by Mexico just for the program.

Give Gina (school secretary) a call at (+632) 4001416 and ask about the May 12 class thats about to open, the documents you need to prepare and the payment options available. Thank you for your interest.
